TNT Chess Camp recently celebrated its 5th summer running chess camps for kids and had its most successful summer ever! TNT is the brainchild of Scott Treiman (17) and Jeremy Troff (18), who four years ago decided to start their own chess camp. The first summer Scott and Jeremy were the only instructors and taught a total of 24 kids. Today, all five Troff and Treiman siblings teach at the camp, which this summer served over 90 students ranging in age from five to fifteen.
This past June and July TNT offered 3 camp sessions with over 30 kids in each session. In addition to learning the fundamentals of chess tactics, students participated in several fun activities, including the now famous Water Battle. TNT Chess Camp offers a first-rate experience to all its campers by teaching proven chess curriculum coupled with fun activities that help to reinforce the concepts learned. Each camp session offers unique curriculum and is divided into three, sometimes four classes, in order to accommodate different age groups and chess levels. Brenda Black, a recent TNT Camp parent, wrote of the camp, “I can not begin to tell you how much the boys learn at each (TNT) camp they have been so blessed to attend. And it is not 5 hours of lecturing! It is 5 hours of serious fun!” A new camper to TNT this summer told her mom, “I learned more in one day than in the whole time I’ve been playing chess.”
After their first summer running the camp, Jeremy and Scott decided that it was very important to them that every kid who wanted to attend their camp could do so regardless of their financial ability. Since then, TNT Chess Camp has given approximately $1,000.00 in financial aid to campers and donations to local non-profits organizations every year. They most recently donated a 3-day camp to the local Joplin and Japan fundraiser, a tournament that raised money for the victims of the natural disasters. Giving back to the community is a priority for the entire TNT staff.
TNT Chess Camps run every summer and most winter breaks. For more information you can visit their website at www.TNTChessCamp.blogspot.com.
